windsor cane fly rod
Question
Is a Windsor with quotation marks an H&I or a Montague or other? Its 3 piece with extra tip.It has green wrapping. It belonged to my Grandpa. Is it worth restoring for about 250 dollars. Or should I just hang it on the wall as is?
Answer
Hi Jay,
I don't have any reference data on "Windsor" rods. However, I have seen this name listed with others as a probable Montague rod made for sale by Sears & Roebuck or some other large retail outlet. If it has all the looks of a Montague, then I would assume it is one made as a private label for retail sale. Sears might be a good place to start in researching the rod.
Value is likely to be in the $50-$100 range so I wouldn't spend a lot on restoration until I found out more about its origins. Hang it on the wall for now...or, if it is fishable, take it out and try it...you might enjoy it. Think about your Grandpa when you do.
Thanks, Joe
