Lake Seminole (Fl,Ga)
Question
Jim, I am fishing the State Championship at Lake Seminole during the first week of October. I am particularly interested in the Spring Creek area. Can you offer me any advice?
Thanks,
Stephen
Answer
I am not familiar with Lake Seminole, or the spring creek area, but your choice of baits needs to be based on reward Vs. the out put of energy. How far will a fish go to get it, when the water is hot vs. how far will she go when it is cooler. It will all depend on temp of the water I would think. The lower the temp the more the fish will follow a bait, or go after it. BIG baits will attract more fish, and larger fish. They provide good reward for the energy the fish spends to get it. In this scenario you do not have to get the bait as close to the fish. IF you can get a bait close to the fish then medium size baits may work. If you are flipping and the temps are still in the 80's then jigs may work especially with a large trailer on them. Soft plastics will work, and I would try lizards and worms first. Bass hate lizards, and will strike them to kill them. More so in the spring, but even into late summer. You will need to get close to the cover.
If the temps are in the 70's then the fish will move from the cover more and chase the bait. Overhead sun will also affect this. If you have cloud cover then fish will come further from cover for the bait.
Spinner baits will find the smaller fish, and help you locate schools. Crankbaits will do the same. Load up on legal fish then go looking for big fish.
Check the weather schedule, if the cloud cover is early then you may want to look for some big fish early, then go looking for the legal fish.
