Question While checking the web for information , I came across your post from 2007 about Deerfield not making a model called Montague .
I also have a rod with a label with a picture of a Trout and the label say's Montague and underneath say's Deerfield .
My rods first two guides are glass / ceramic inserts , the rest are wire guides.
It a three piece and the reel seat has a sliding ring that locks when turned .
It's in a canvas type bag that I doubt is the original , but the bag ha "True Temper" in red letters printed on it .
Any information would be greatly appreciated .
Thank you

So did you follow the URL (Internet address) and verify which Montague label you have ?

I could not add anything substantive to the 2007 comments.
I am not saying that Montague did not made a Deerfield, I am saying there is no reference that proves it.
You may note a "Jill" put a followup on the above 2007 estimate and doesn't bother to show sources for model or price , especially the price, I find to be very high. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Fishing-1634/f_4639682.htm
I could make wild guesses like that and call your rod "sold by Ace Hardware" but I have no verifiable history on that.
Montagues are looked down upon by the collecting community and often they are justified. They were mass produced , rather heavy and very slow. They are not going to resale for very much.
A small portion of these rods are decent fishing tools . It is the collector community that decides the prices , please don抰 blame the messenger.
I find two books are available at larger libraries to get history and or value:
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 .
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook -Michael Sinclair
Shorter rods have greater resale value. You failed to mention the length .
As I said to the last person , pictures would be appreciated to
[email protected] . I have as yet to actually see a Montague Deerfield.

Mac
