Wright and Mcgill
Question
Hi there, I've been given a older spinning rod. It has Wright & McGill "Granger" 9FT on the side of it. The model number is No. MB95H there is also a 2-H under the eagle icon. I was just wondering if you could give me any info on it ie: line weight lure weights.
Thanks
Perry
Answer
Hi Perry,
Sorry, but I'm not having any luck finding information on this one.
If I were to guess, and this is only a wild guess, I would probably assume the "H" designation indicates a heavy rating. This would indicate a lure rating of 1 ounce and up to maybe 4-5 ounces. Line rating maybe 12-25 pound test.
If the rod appears to you to be able to handle a medium-heavy or heavy rating, start with line in the 8-15 pound test range and a lure in the 1/2 to 1-1/2 ounce range and do some test casting. This is more in the medium-heavy range but should be a good place to start. If it seems too heavy for the rod, then my wild guess is all wrong and you need to drop down in lure weight and line size.
If the rod handles the medium-heavy load easily, you may wish to try something heavier in the 12-25 pound test range and maybe a 2-3 ounce lure. If that perfoms well, the rod may very well be "heavy" rated. If it overtaxes the rod, you should drop back to the medium-heavy range.
A little experimenting should let you find a comfortable line and lure range for the rod.
Thanks, Joe
