Question
One of several picture
I was wondering if you could give me any information about this fly fishing? pole. I am trying to help my neighbors son sell some of his parents items. His Mom passed away and I helped him clean out the estate and we found this in the garage. He said he knew it was his Dad's, but can't remember the last time he would have used it, his father passed away in 1989. Anyway I sell stuff in Ebay and told him I would help him out to try and get a fair price for it.
It is a Heddon, 9' Black Beauty, 2 piece, what I believe is fiberglass pole that weighs about 5 ounces. We do have a felt cover for it. I Have attached several pictures as well. Any help as to the year it was made and what a fair price would be would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you for your time,
Loreen Collins
AnswerLoreen,
It is a good rod and in good shape but it is not bamboo which commands a much higher price.

Homel gives the 9 ft model Mark series fiberglass fly rod by Heddon is valued at $7, 25 and $45 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. You might get a little more in the summer, check eBay completed sales for prices.
But it is a rod not a pole. Terms like that make a big difference in dollar results.
There is little to no history on most fishing rods outside of bamboo US trout fly rods.
Fiberglass came to it's height in the 60s. It is not pre 1950 nor probably after 1970s.

Mac
