I have a 24-9 model but have no idea what line wt to use on it.

Depends how old it is , the guides will be small even if built in the 60s. Don't plan on shooting line, unless you get someone to put bigger guides on it.

If there are letters like HDH or HCH , that is the old style line weight. Modern lines have a larger diameter. If you tell me the letters I can translate to modern line weights.

Fishermen have changed some, but most people fished 6 weight rods  then as  they do today, for trout anyway. So I'd try 6 weight. Most fly shops would offer a reel with line to test cast various weights. I do if you are in Denver.
