9 fly rod
Question
Purchased at an estate sale. Don't think it is too old. Heddon 9' 3 piece. Looks like wood(brown)but I think it might be fiberglass. Above the handle the name Heddon. Aroung the rod shaft is the number 2030-E-7 Brass screw seat with red plastic end cap. On the screw is this: U.S.Pats.1624052-1961968-1961969-1961970 Might be numbers for each of the three sections. It has two tips and is fairly heavy and real squirrly. Slow. I purchased it for $25.00. I will not fish with it, just put in on a rack with a couple other old bamboo rods I have collected. Any help is surely appreciated. Thanks again. Pat McGraw
Answer
Pat,
I believe what you have there is a fiberglass rod (round sided) which is not bamboo(flat sided). Therefor not collectible by most peoples standards. There isn't even a book dedicated to fiberglass due to the lack of interest.
The model number 2030 is not in my book,Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000).
E is line weight, comparable to 5 weight in modern lines.
Luck,
Mac
