QuestionJoe, I would like to sell a 15' 1" bamboo spey rod I have. It is in good condition. The Make and Model are hard to read but I believe it is Jerreut o similar, model 300. It has twist locks to secure the three sections. I would characterize the condition as excellent. How would you believe it is worth?
AnswerHi Bill,
Before trying to estimate a value, I'd like to see if we can figure out who the maker is and what you have in this rod. To that end, if you could answer a few questions, it would be helpful. Also, if you have the ability to take and send digital pictures, send some to me at
[email protected] and I'll review them.
How many rod sections do you have? Is there an extra tip section?
Are all rod sections the same length?
Does the rod come with a bag and a tube for storage/transport?
By twist locks do you mean the ferrules twist together like a screw? Are the locks on the outside of the ferrules as an added part of the male ferrule?
Do the male ferrules have spikes that fit past the end of the female ferrules and down inside the rod?
What does the handle, or handles, look like? How long is it, or they?
Does it have snake guides or ring guides? If snake, do they start on the left and twist to the right or start on the right and twist to the left?
Is the name on the rod applied in writing or as a decal? What color is the writing? Which direction does it go...toward the handle, away from the handle or around the rod shaft?
Are there any other markings or writing on the rod, the bag or the tube?
If you send photos, close-ups of the handle, reel seat, butt cap, winding check, writing, ferrules, and a sample guide would be useful.
Thanks, Joe
