bamboo pole sunlight
Question
i have a japan made bamboo split (3 piece) fly rod or pole marked "sunlight" what can you tell me about it worth and age thanks jeff
Answer
Hi Jeff,
There are many brands of fly rods made in occupied Japan after the end of World War II. So, age is probably 50-60 years. These were made for export sale and many were bought by US servicemen to send home as gifts for a dollar or two. As a rule, there is not much collector value in these rods. Once in a while you find one that is pretty nice and casts well.
Typically, you can buy the Japanese made rods for $20-$50 in Very Good condition. Once in a while you find one that will sell for more. Also, these are most often found in Balsa wood boxes, with extras like lures, flies, line, bobbers, etc as a complete kit. Many have reversable handles and extra sections to make casting rods or fly rods from the pieces.
Thanks, Joe
