Bamboo fly rod value

Question
Hi.  I have a nine foot bamboo fly rod from 1940-1950.  Not sure of the exact date. Never used.  It has two different tips, one for heavy and one for light action.  I keep it in it's original shipping tube.  The tube is made of cardboard and metal.  All in perfect, unused condition.  I am interested in selling it.  What would it's value be? The butt of the rod is labeled Herters, Inc., Waseca, Minn.  I hope you can help me out.  I thank you in advance for your answer.  Jeff.

Answer
Jeff,
I am a US trout bamboo fly rod man myself so I can抰 help you a lot.
Here抯 a book that you might find in the library that may help 揊ishing Tackle?by  Graham Turner. It has English and UK rods in it .
Herter's is English is my assumption.
My usual source is Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997. It doesn't have Herters.
Herters was a mail order outfit  see history:

Its very hard to pin down a dollar value, but because it is not in the books it is probably not on the collectors radar even though it is a great fishing tool. I would say $150 - 200.  More if it is presented properly.
There are 2 on ebay unsold at 150 and 200 . Two more are completed, sold for 164 and 229.  The lower price is comparable to your 9 ft. Ok you are reading this and saying to yourself , but it is in mint condition, but very few people know what Herters is and maybe you could get $300 if you found the right person.
Luck,
Mac
