Zebco model#55
Question
I have about a thousand questions for you but I will keep it to just a few for now. I have a Zebco model 55 with the box and instruction manual. I don't believe the reel has ever been used though it does not have the original line on it. It is in excellent condition. The box and manual are both in good condition. I'm not going to sell, but I would like to know something about it and what it is worth. I believe it is the biggest reel Zebco ever made but beyond that I don't know much about it. Next I would like to know the value of a Zebco 191 reel on a Zebco rod. I believe what it says on the rod is "Castawhaz Mod. No. 6/00". They are both in pretty good condition but the words on the rod are hard to read. I also have a 7.5 ft. long 2 piece Wright and McGill Fly Rod I would like to know about. On the rod , it says "Sweetheart" No. 24 FLY ROD Pat. April 12, 1938 Pat No 2.114.107 I believe it is fiberglass. I love to fish with it, I would like to know if I should retire it or keep using it. The rod is in very good condition. Thank you in advance, I have enjoyed reading the questions that others have had and look forward to finally getting some answers about my stuff. I'm glad I stumbled on to this site.
Answer
Hello
Zebco 55s run in the 15-20 range, with the box, I would expect it to maybe double, but sounds like the box has some wear.
The issue with Zebco is the reel quality is on the lower end. Reel collectors are interested in the expensive high quality reels of their time.
I dont think the Zebco rod and reel will generate too much interest, although I am not specifically aware of the 191 model.
I would continue to fish with your Wright and Mcgill fly rod. They seem to run in the $15-$50 range. Now, the split bamboo rods they made generate more interest and value.
You can also search on ORCA fishing reels...this is a site that is specific to fishing reels.
