Old boo rod restoration
Question
Hi, Mac...
I'm a 'boo builder/restorer in So. Cal. I was given an old rod for restoration
that I posted on the Bamboo Rod room and a UK forum to find the name...
and I found it here... hahaha. It must be another Hinduvine rod. Not the same
as the one from the Dec. post, tho. I thought it said Honduvine or
handyvine... the decal is somewhat chewed up... and it has "Flyer" written in
gold script under the decal. It's actually a nice looking rod, with
intermediates about every 2 inches... but will be a pain to rebuild with all
those wraps. :) It has 2 mid sections, and 2 separate tips... looks like it was
made as a trout/bass or dry/nymph rod. Brass reel seat, plated brass
ferrules, but at least they're pinned. together it makes a 8 ft. heavy (bass?)
rod or a 9' trout rod. You're likely right, it has no value, but at least it was put
together in a half-way decent manner. Likely not tonkin, Asian, but not
tonkin. Could have been made in India, I guess.
Well, my base price for rebuilding is the same, and there are a ton of
intermediates to do, so I'm not dropping the price. I guess it will be up to him
if he wants it done. :)
Thanks for the site, I'm bookmarking you for the future.

Answer
Mike,
Thanks for the newsy info.
I never firm up the estimate till I see the rod and then I can add a little for intermediate wraps.
Have you seen a Japanese rod ? The metal i.e. reel seat looks like tin especially the cork check.
Ok if it isn't Tonkin is it Calcutta ? leopard looking ?
Thanks to you
