Bamboo rod tapers
Question
Rich,
I am a novice bamboo maker. Where can I find information concerning the rod tapers and instructions on making the correct tapers. And, do all bamboo rods have a heaver or bulbed tension area? Thanks a heap,
Guy
Answer
Guy,
There is allot of taper and building information on the Internet.:
Bamboo Taper Database :
http://www.rodbuildingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=11276&mode=threaded
Taper Archives
http://www.bamboorodmaking.com/html/taper_archives.html
Online Rod Taper Archive
http://www.uwm.edu/~stetzer/Tapers/hexrod-archive.html
Then there is the rod building community online,Rod makers :
http://www.canerod.com/rodmakers/index.html
I highly recommend it.
The free on line magazine for bamboo rod builders, Powerfibers:
http://www.powerfibers.com/
"instructions on making the correct tapers" Not sure but I think you mean what is the method to achieve the proper measurements of a bamboo segment when planing it. , right ? Ask the Rodmakers, books and videos or a class. I used A master's guide to building a bamboo fly rod by Everett Garrison and Hoagy B. Carmichael. There are others less expensive . I teach the class in Denver.
Not sure what you mean by "And, do all bamboo rods have a heaver or bulbed tension area?" but I will guess the answer is no . Tapers are a straight line basically.
Luck,
Mac
