Beautiful Milwards rod
Question
Hi Joe,
I was wondering if you could shed some light on a rod for me (or point me in the right direction). It is a 3 piece 9'9" cane rod with green whipping over silver, edged with red, 8 rings with brass reel seats and ferules and a dark wooden ball butt cap. There is no date or name apart from Milwards - made in england stamped on the brass in front of the butt cap. It is a stunning looking rod in excellent conditon, as good as the day it was made! I would like to know if it worth anything or should I just get the centerpin out and use it.
Best wishes
Emma
Answer
Hi Emma,
I'm afraid that's not enough to locate the rod in my reference books. Milward's made a variety of different models and usually labeled the rods. My book only lists five models which isn't nearly the number made anyway.
I can tell you that Milward's rods are quality rods and in excellent condition run in the $300-$600 range. That's nowhere near the cost of a new bamboo rod of comparable quality.
You can certainbly use it if you want to, that is why it was made to begin with. I suspect you would get a great deal of enjoyment out of fishing with the rod.
Sorry I couldn't be more help on this one. Sounds liek a very nice rod.
