Question
Rod All In Box
My late husband inherited this rod from his father. I think it's a fly rod, and I don't think it's been used much, if any. I would like to know its approx. vintage & value. This rod will separate into 5 pieces and can be connected in 2 ways: two pieces & the handle for a 64?length with 5 eyes or three pieces & the handle for a 96緮 length with 8 eyes. It is highly varnished, medium brown in color. I cannot determine what it's made of -- bamboo? The cork on the handle is tight & unstained, and there are two what I think may be reel seats below the cork on the handle facing different directions. On the top of the handle is a red sign that says 揤icki?with 揓apan?underneath. This rod is packed into an unfinished lidded wooden box measuring 34?x 5緮 x 1?with 2 metal flip fasteners, pristine inside. There are 3 small flaws in the outside veneer. It is stamped 6668917 on one end. The lid has 10 sections, 6 are lined in cork. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!
AnswerElla,
Casting and casting fly combo rods rarely made and not a very high resale value.
Japanese rods were very poor value .
Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly considered trinkets by collectors but memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value. I have never seen any written history on them in English..
Good Luck
