Hardy 6 palakona
Question
Sir,
I just swapped for a Hardy cane rod. It is 6' long and 2pcs. The bag is green and I do not believe it be original, I know the tube is not.
In spiral scrip above the cork it says 2oz Regal Trade Mark Palakona The 'Special Fly Rod' the seat is cork with a down sliding ring stamped H58942. The wraps are green tipped with red the rod has been fished but is in great condition and I plan on fishing it this spring.
I have found other referances on the web leading me to believe this rod was built in august of 1964. I can not find reference to that model name or a line designation. It seems to throw a WF3 decently, as well as a WF4, a WF5 is too much for this little guy.
Do you have any further information on this model, or know of some resources I can check on my own?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Hyrum Taylor
Answer
Hyrum,
My problem with information on Hardy is ,they were built in the UK . My books and memory is US.
You may have found Hardy Canada:
http://www.hardyandgreyscanada.com/hardy/roddating.php
but Hardy is still in business in Alnwick - on the web:
http://fly.hardyfishing.com/en-gb/home/
try the library
(English rods) Fishing Tackle: A Collector's Guide Hardcover, 1991 Graham Turner
Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell has several pages on Hardy
I recommend Classic Rod forum for information( where they have a deluxe Palakona discussion on going or start a new one at no cost on your model , but pass your conclusions to a knowledgeable person before writing them in stone):
http://www.classicflyrodforum.com/topic/11061/t/Hardy-The-De-Luxe-Palakona.html
The Canadian site says 1964 with the serial number H58942, but does not name the model in that year.
luck,
Mac
