Hardy Reel
Question
Hi
I have an old Hardy Reel that reads on the back Mark II Duplicated and below it says size 3 3/8 and patent uniqua reel.
Do you have any information on this reel as it was given to me?
Many thanks for any information that you can give.
Answer
Hi Sue,
Reels are not really my area, but I do have a book on old reels and I will tell you what it says.
The Hardy Uniqua reel with the Duplicated Mark II check was amde in the 1921-1959 time frame. If the reel has a horseshoe shaped silver latch on the spool release mechanism, it was made before 1935. If it is telephone shaped, it was made after 1935. If it is neither of these, it was made in the 1950s.
The Uniqua model is a basic, lower end model, but still a Hardy and a good reel. In this size the value is estimated at:
pre-1935 Good-$125 Excellent-$200
post 1935 Good-$95 Excellent-$175
Keep in mind these estimates are close to 10 years old and are most likely higher due to inflation.
Regardless of which category, it is still a nice reel.
Thanks, Joe
