Montague Bamboo Rod
Question
Mac:
I inherited a Montague Bamboo fly rod upon the passing of my dad. Aside from the logo Montague with the fish, it appears to have either Cedar Lake or Clear Lake on the stamp. I know Montague is at the low end of the scale when it comes to bamboo,I would like to know more about it nonetheless, for sentimental purposes. Can you help?
Answer
Steven,
Montague made the Clear Lake Bamboo fly model rod in the 40s only, according to Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair .
At that time it cost $8.75, ranked 28 of 30 ,in value and quality .
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000, add about 30% for age of book) does not mention this model. Resale value even in excellent condition would be low.
One is currently selling for $10 on ebay with 2 days left.
Both of these books are found in most major libraries. Is this the kind of information you were looking for ?
Luck,
Mac
