Battenkill
Question
I was reading the question about the Battenkill. I have one that was purchased in the 80's (25yr edition) for around $1300.00 The numbers written on all 3 pieces are 87070. It has only been used a couple of times. What is it worth?
Answer
Lisa,
Someone paid too much or I need more specific information on this rod. for example the length of sections and the rod , the number of sections etc ( What I need in specifics is on my all experts web page:
http://www.allexperts.com/ep/1634-36866/Fishing/Rich-Mac-McGaughey.htm
87070 is not in the Orvis serial number data base.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2h7gi/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/orvis.htm
But it is not complete but is a good starting point .
A Battenkill with number 8707x is in the database and confirms your 80s purchase.
The price book:Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Battenkills top out in excellent condition at 600 according to Homel. Shorter rodss are worth more.
