QuestionHi Mac,
I was googling about the net and found you! My mother gave my dad this rod many years ago. I imagine she bought in here in upstate NY, Johnstown to be more specific. He was afraid to use it because it was so nice. So it stayed
in its tube all these years only to be brought out to look at from time to time. I have enclosed pictures to help you identify it. As you can see it has 2 identical tips. Its red label says Southbend Rod #290 length 7 1/2. On the bamboo is E or HDH written in cursive hand writing. Can you tell me what I should try selling this for?
Thank you
Cynthia Persico
AnswerCynthia,
Thanks for asking this question on All experts. I got your pictures at
[email protected].
The price book: Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition you a ball ion 2000) add about 30% for age of book .
Homel gives the 7.5 model (c.1950) Southbend Rod #290 with an extra tip, 2 sections a value of $40, 125 and $225 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. I would guestimate excellent but don't quote me , quote the book.
I see 2 have sold on ebay for 177 and 225. I think I could do better with your like new condition.
I hope this meets your needs.
Luck,
Mac
