QuestionHi Rich,
I have had a rod in my possession that I am hoping to have valued. It is a Hardy Bros Palakona - The De Luxe Rod serial number E4944 - Pat.No20875/22.
I am finding it quite hard to get information on this rod as the serial number only has 4 numbers? Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Danielle
AnswerDanielle,
You're right about 4 digits- they aren't on the history / Canadian Hardy page:

You might try contacting Hardy in Alnwick, England. (please send me an e-mail,
[email protected], and tell me if this worked or is a dead end)

The Palakona was mostly made in the 70s, according to Homel, listed below.
Books: Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book. Available at most libraries.
Homel gives the Hardy 8 model "Palakona Deluxe" trout fly rod(c 1935) with an extra tip, 3 sections; the value of $95, 200 and $395 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Luck,
Mac
