Heddon fiberglass rod ID
Question
Purchased this on ebay recently. I checked the Heddon fiberglass rod wikki and couldn't match up the rod # on the rod with any of the rod numbers on the wikki page. Here's what I have.8 foot rod, both pieces equal length. Red metal reel seat cork handle with a brass colored sleeve on the front end of the cork. Brown blank wrapped with brown and gold colored thread, gold plated guides and tip. Metal ferrules with the same thread wrapped on them. Gold plated hook keeper and above the hook keeper theres's flat gold braid crisscrossed wraps. (like the Fenwick wraps}. Gold mylar or tape with heddon on it and below that PAL. Marked on the blank in white is 876 8' below that is WT. 7 line and made in usa below that.
Thanks for the help.
Answer
Robert,
I am a US trout fly bamboo rod man.
Sounds like you got lots better resources than I do.
I use :
Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook -Michael Sinclair
Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell
Even Heddon: The Rod with the Fighting Heart by Michael Sinclair , doesn't mention dates into the fiberglass years or the Pal rod.
You might try
Kovels' Antiques & Collectibles Price List - 30th Edition By Ralph Kovel, Terry Kovel
Have you tried looking for Heddon catalogs for the Pal era 50s-60s I guess.
Luck,
Mac
