QuestionHello Joe, saw some of your other responses on line. I have an old Granger GA 7030 in mint condition with the exception of the butt end ferrule that has a small hairline crack. I believe the rod to be pre-Wright McGill. Reel seat is labeled Pat Apr 12 1938 - Pat No 2114107 - Made By Goodwin Granger Company Denver. Greenish brown rod tube and green sock. Tube still has the label from Granger on it. Both tips are in excellent shape. Do you have any idea of the value of this rod? What impact does the cracked ferrule have on value and would you recommend removing the ferrule and having it silver soldered to repair it? Thank you, Jeff
AnswerHi Jeff,
Well, we want to be careful with this one. The 7'0" Granger rods are rare. It sounds like this one is pre-W-M. One important question is whether or not it is a "Registered" model. This would have a bearing on value.
I would not recommend doing anything about the ferrule at this time. Let's see what we can find out about the rod first.
If you are able to take digital pictures, can you do so and send them to me at
[email protected] for me to review? This will help.
Also, are there any other markings, writing, labels, etc. on the rod, the bag or the tube that would further identify the rod?
I would estimate the rod value to be at least in the $1,100-$1,500 range and the more we can learn about it, the better we can tune the estimate. If it is a registered model, the price goes up dramatically.
Thanks, Joe
