Graphite Rods
Question
recently with to Texas on a fishing trip. Besides fish, I caught a rod and reel. The reel was Garcia. The rod was a 100% graphite 7 foot
medium heavy rod. The handle look like a cork material. The rods said Lowe's. I know it is not from the lumber yard chain. Have you
heard if it. It would need a new handle, new guides put on it. Have you heard of Lowes Rods. Are they worthy anything? Worth the
repair?

Answer
Hi Rich,
Interesting. I know Lowe makes boats, but I don't think they make rods. They may have someone make the rods for them and put the Lowe name on them. I found a patent given to Lowe for a fishing rod holder but that makes sense as they are boat makers.
I have no reference data on a Lowe's rod of any sort, but the books I have don't include everything. I would guess the rod is what si called a private label rod...made by someone else and the Lowe name put on it...and is likely of average quality. No real collector value that I am aware of so probably just a typical used rod.
If the rod blank is still in good shape, and you can get it fixed up fairly cheaply, then sure it is probably worth it. If it is an expensive restoration job, then probably not.
Thanks, Joe
