1929 Hardy Gem Featherweight 9 Bamboo Rod
Question
Hi Rich, I have identified this rod through Hardy. Can you tell me a Ball park Value? If it has been fished, it was very little. The tips have never been broken.
All nickle silver components. The ferrule plugs are stuck in the ferrule. All the wrapping work is still near mint.
It is in the original Tube and sock. There is even a sock for the tube with a Hardy label on it.

Answer
Dale,
All the Hardy rods from that era have serial numbers which you can confirm at:

How do you know it is the Gem Featherweight model? Rod socks(cloth cases) and tubes don't count.
$300- 400 US would be my guesstimate if it is a 9 ft fly rod. Taking this guess from Homel(Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book ), which doesn't mention your specific model. SO it is a swing and I often miss. Looking at ebay I'd say my number is low by 2-300.
Luck,
Mac
