Trolling in currents of Superior
Question
Can you catch Lake Trout and Salmon trolling into the current? What is the most effective direction to troll in regard to current patterns in Lake Superior? In rivers I usually sweep down current and somewhat cross current current with my lures. Is it the same in big water? Thanks. Dennis
Answer
Hi Dennis,
I can answer the question from a Lake Michigan standpoint. They generally either troll with or against the current. Not too often across. And "with" or "against" usually determines lure speed. At times the currents are too fast to troll with the flow so anglers will troll against them. In either case, the currents attract and move bait so they are important to follow.
