Question
I am a relativley seriour angler fishing on average 3-4 times a week. And i was just wanting your take on the best fishing line. I bass fish and have lost 2 fish in the past week from line breakage. I use 10# line relativley cheap stuff. And i really need an upgrade. What line is the best in terms and strenght and has no memory.

Hi Alex,

Don't skimp on line quality.  It's the link between you and the fish.

Sounds like you may have had some old line.  If you buy bulk like, store it in a cool dark spot.  Store your reels out of the sun too.  

Thankfully mono line is pretty reasonable, even the good stuff.  Asking what line is best is like asking what beer or wine or toilet paper is the best.  Everyone has a favorite.

I get to try new lines every year and there are some good ones and some that I don't like.  When in doubt, I tend to scurry back to my old friend, clear blue Stren.  It has never failed me, especially for bass fishing.  

Another one I really like is Stren Magna-Thin for spooky fish or clear water situations.  I have fished with Silver-Thread Excalibur for many years and I also really like it.  But of the newer companies out there I think my favorite line these days is Sufix Siege (blue box).  I had a chance to use it on bass and pike last year and it really preformed well.  Then this winter I took a travel rod and reel along on a family trip to Florida.  I had one reel along loaded with 10# Sufix that I used for everything.  I ended up catching an 8 pound bass out of a lake behind our condo.  Then I fished a couple piers and hit a bunch of Spanish mackerel and Jack Crevalle.  I was probably a little under powered for the salt water fish but this line held up perfectly.  Those Jacks try to take you around the pier pilings and I was able to land them.
