Bait alerts on spin cast reel
Question
I am new at fishing and have recently purchased a Zebco 33 reel. The manual with it is not very informative. During an online search a bait alert was mentioned. What is it and how do I use it.
Answer
Hi Thelma,
Some of the new 33's have Zebco's "Bite Alert" system on them. If you are still fishing and a fish takes the bait and begins to tug some line, and audible "beep, beep, beep" goes off on the reel. A light also starts to blink on the reel if you are night fishing.
I saw the press release in a trade magazine but haven't actually had one of these in my hand to tell you where the switch is. I'm guessing right on top where the light is. But, from what I read, you can cast out the bait and then switch the "bite alert" on and put the rod and reel in a rod holder and wait for the bite alert to signal a strike.
Not all the 33's have this feature. I think it's the BASC33. The feature runs off a couple watch type batteries.
Good fishing,
