Sears, Roebuck & Co Mohawk Casting Reel
Question
Hello, I came across a Sears, Roebuck & Co Mohawk Casting Reel,Level Winding, No.3111. That I'm guessing belonged to my grandfather, as it still has the sale receipt in the box which is dated in June of 1936. the box is in fair shape, and as far as I can tell the reel works for the most part. The bracket that guides the line onto the spool is free and moves, but it doesn't always travel back and forth (which I think might be a loose or not properly set screw - I'm not a fisherman, so I'm not sure about this) It's made of silver-color steel (still in good shape) and both sides of the reel have nice engravings on them. The winding handles are in good shape and the cross bar for the handles itself is also engraved. I was wondering is this had any value? And if so what it would be worth?
Thanks much for your time, very much appreciated.
Answer
Hello
Unfortunately this reel was a low cost high production reel in its day. They are very common to find without much collector demand.
The collector interest is in the higher quality precision reels, which were expensive in their day.
Your reel would be in the $5-$15 range, but the box helps.
Did the reel come with any interesting fishing lures?
