Steel Fishing Rod
Question
I came across a steel Rod while in Fla. It is a action rod made by Orchard Industries Detroit Mich. Pat.no. 1920966. It has a removelble handle from the rod. No one i know of has ever seen one like it. They have seen the True temper rods as i have 2 of them. Any information would be helpfull Thankn you.
Answer
This is a fairly common rod. It was patented by a guy named Carlson in the 1930s. The patent pertains to how the reel was secured to the rod.
Unfortunately, value is fairly low in steel rods. They were produced in large volume at low cost. The main fishing rod collector interest is in American split bamboo fly rods (particularly custom made).
I like to take rods like yours, add a vintage reel (say a Langley lure cast or Shakespeare Marhoff) and use it to fish with. These reels are fairly inexpensive on ebay, etc.
keep me in mind if you have any old fishing lures.
