My hubby bought me a new rod. I want to fish. Two weeks ago, off of the empty boat dock at my sister's house on the waterway across the reflection of the Don Cesar in St. Pete, I kept catching catfish and caught one sting ray. I can see big fish jumping out of the water and I can see this one HUGE sheepshead around the dock legs in the water. My fishing rod is a Calypso Mako and much taller than me (I am 5'1) and I have a second cheap rod. The cheap rod is what I caught those fish on two weeks ago because I forgot my hubby bought the Calypso for me last year. Anyway, I now know I need to get a needle nose pliers to get my hooks back. I would like to go to WalMart and get some essentials and put together my own fishing tackle box. Not all at once.
By the way, the dolphin always come in and go by the boat dock I am at in the morning when I fish. What fish can I catch with what bait? There is a bait/tackle shop a few minutes away from the house. I welcome any and all advice. Thank you!
AnswerSorry for getting to you so late, I was taking finals at school. Well any way.. complements on a nice picture and I am very glad that you are interested in fishing, especially because we need more women in the sport. As for fishing gear I recommend you go to the tackle shop and talk to one of the guys working there about a good assorted pack of hooks and how to make a split shot rig. A good bait for sheepshead is shrimp and clams. Shrimp is a good all around bait to use especially live. Like I said go to the shop and ask the guy there how to get started because he will have a vast knowledge of your area and go ahead and tell him you are a beginner and you want to know more about fishing. Good Luck.
