Sears 8 red fiberglass fly rod
Question
I have a sears fiberglass fly rod it is 8ft long. The rod is red with black and yellow threads. 8 inches from the winding check it starts a diamond pattern that is 8 inches long. There is one set of diamonds with a single yellow thread and the other diamond pattern is 4-5 yellow threads with a black outline thread on each side of the yellow. There is a swirl type pattern just before the sears logo. The reel seat is down locking. Any clue as to line weight or any other information.
Thanks for your time
Justin
Answer
Justin,
I would recommend a 5 or 6 weight line. They are very versatile for trout, bass, pan fish. However, if your going to cast large flys, you may want to jump up to a 7 or 8.
I don't have much additional information about the rod itself. The collector interest in Sears rods is very low, they are generally high production low cost rods. The main interest for collectors is American made split bamboo rods (and some high end fiberglass rods).
