Edgar Sealey Flyrod
Question
I have an Edgar Sealey "Rainbow" 10" bamboo fly rod. The rod has a stamp indicating it was manufactured in England. Other than that, I have been unable to find out anything about the manufacturer or this rod. I would appreciate any information that you can provide concerning this rod.
Answer
Hi Chris,
Edgar Sealey rods are hard to locate information on, as is the maker. I don't have any value data in my reference books. I did some lokking around on the net and there are lots of different models of bamboo fly rods made and sold by Sealey, but precious little real data.
He, and his company, were in England. Their initial entry into the fishing market appears to have been fish hooks, then reels, float and fly rods. I did see references to dates of manufacture in the 1950s and 1960s. They could have been active earlier. The rods appear to be of high quality but don't seem to have the following of Hardy, Sharpe, and others.
Value (my guess only!) would likely be in the $100-$200 range in Very Good to Eccellent condition.
Sorry, but there's just not much out there on these rods.
