fishing trip to colorado
Question
My friend and I are planning a trip to Colorado soon to do some fishing. We are both seniors and consider this on our bucket list. We are also avid campers and are hoping to find a great place to camp, wake-up to the sound of the river and fish to our hearts content. I am hoping you can steer me to some great choices for pitching our tents. My wife and I camped along the Blue River 35 years ago and had and excellent spot. Just drove off the highway and set up camp. No charge. Somehow I suspect it isn't quite that easy anymore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. John
Answer
John,
My first advice to you is get far away from the greater Denver metro area . Go the western slope where the fish aren't so pressured and easier to catch.
Some rivers I like that have camping :
Frying Pan
South Platte
Dolores
Yakima
Conejos
Colorado
Upper Rio Grande ie South Fork
Better is a fly fishing guide that I have used with great success for years:
Flyfisher's Guide to Colorado, 2002 by Marty Bartholomew
Should be at the library but is on Amazon. It has river maps, fly charts, places to eat and sleep.
If you can't find it try:Colorado Guide to Fishing Page, David
