QuestionThis is the same question asked by Carol Santacroce on 3/14/2008 EXCEPT MY DESCRIPTION is different. The serial number is white #60-6651, white "impregnated" and Tonkin Cane hand marked on 1st section. It is an 8 1/2 foot fly rod with the same brown plastic & metal reel locking pieces on the very end below the cork handle. When I look it up on your reference it says a shorter spinning rod. The eyelets are fly rod types. It has a dented round metal case with the same green colored cloth for the 4 sections.(2 tips). Any ID help on age, maker, & value would be appreciated. Thank you. Larry
AnswerLarry,
By eyelets I think you mean guides - and they are called snake guides if on a fly rod. I assume your rod is bamboo - flat not round sided.
To be sure, I would need to see the ferrules (metal connectors )and measure both inside and outside diameter to the nearest 64th or thousandths inch. Your rod was probably impregnated by Orvis for Montague. The white lettering is not Orvis but is Montague. Which means made in 50s and worth very little. I need clear detailed pictures of all the ferrules to
[email protected] if you want to pursue it.
You can try emailing or calling Orvis as they are still in business.

If you ask them for an evaluation they will send you to someone who charges, but based on the serial number if you ask for id , year and maker - they should answer.
The Orvis database is not mine. I have seen several missing numbers and models. I don't have much insight to it's origin and content. I have found the database to be accurate , too.
Price book: Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Your rod is probably not a model Battenkill, but it was probably the only impregnated 8 /12 foot 3 piece, 2 tips made by Orvis according to Homel. It is a nice rod and valuable but let's wait for more information before I quote Homel on that model.
Luck,
Mac
