Question
I have a 9' Heddon Thorobred. On the rod it says #14-9'-2 1/2f-HCH or D. I bought it used about 54 years ago. Wondering what it is worth. Good shape. I replaced one ferrule.

Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
Sinclair: Heddon made a #14 from 1924 through 1954. It was no named early . In 1930 it was named the Thorobred. It has always had red thread wrappings. In 1939 they made the reel seats out off tenite usually a marbleized finish and coral colored. From the rod text description your rod was made in 1954 give or take 6 months.
Homel gives the 9 ft model 14 "Thorobred" heavy trout fly rod with an extra tip, 3 sections a value of $50, 115 and $210 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. Probably under $100 but check ebay.
Luck,
Mac
