Phillipson Chiefton tc80 fiberglass fly rod
Question
I have been trying to get some info on the history of this rod..my internet skills are minimal...can you help me...it is yellow blank...8ft. and #6 line rated...2 sections...thanks..Rob
Answer
Rob,
Bill Phillipson made rods in Denver, CO. Bill P. made good rods. But neither the collectors want nor has anyone written history books on fiberglass rods, that I know. And I have looked. If you would have asked me about any fiberglass rods I would guess 1950 - 1960.
Books:
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair has history of bamboo rods made by Phillipson. Probably at your local library.

Homel gives the 8 ft model "Epoxite" fiberglass fly rod with an extra tip, 3 sections a value of $25, 70 and $125 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. This is a general idea of value , not the final word . The Chiefton or Chieftain could be worth a lot more or a lott less than the Epoxite model.

Including Phillipson fiberglass:

where it states the Chieftain not Chiefton was made from 1950 to 1955.
