Heddons fishing rod
Question
Hi Rich,
I'm inquiring about my Dad's fishing rod. It is fibreglass and in new
condition.
Hand written on the shaft is: Heddon Pal #8407 Mark III 8 1/2'; Fas-Tip
Action with the initials C-H. C.H- G.B.F. The label on the storage tube
indicates that it was made be James Heddon's Sons in Preston, Ontario and is
at least 20 years old. Thanks so much for your help,
Gina
Answer
Gina,
C-H. C.H- G.B.F. is line size.
I assume your rod is a fly rod with the reel below the handle unlike a casting rod where the reel seat is above the handle.
Price Book:Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Homel gives the 8-9' model "Mark III" fiberglass fly rods c.1965 without an extra tip, 2 sections a value of $7, 20 and $345 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Unfortunately fiberglass just doesn't command the resale value that bamboo.
Luck,
Mac
