rod/reel repair
Question
i have a Cabellas, Gary Borger Model rod, 2 pce., / 5/6 wt. with Cabellas top reel at time (1995) +/- Top piece destroyed, broken twice, need new, wood seat is loose, reel handle fell off 10+ yrs ago, now 'internal' problems. Made from aircraft alum., whole outfit awesome, just not very tough. Before fly fishing I would wear out 2/3 spinning rods and reels per season on the way to the store for milk and bread. Question is, I've aged a bit, slowed down some, wonder if this outfit is worth fixing or buy a new one. Wild Specks / Coasters / moving water.
Answer
Hi Bill,
The short answer is...I would probably get a new rod and reel.
I doubt you can find a replacement tip section for a rod that old without some great luck. It doesn't sound like it can be repaired again at any reasonable cost. Don't get me wrong, I've fixed worse for sentimental reasons but the client hung it on the wall after repair.
Thanks, Joe
