Fishing up North For Pike and Walleye
Question
Hello,
On monday I am going 3 hours north of Thunder Bay to a remote lake for a fishing/family trip. The Lake has mainly pike and walleye. The pike are quite big(16-30") although most are in the low 20's. As for the walleye not sure but biggest i have caught there is 26". The water is full of leeches a and is murky. I was wondering what lures or setups i should be using to fish up there, during the day and the night. Let me know preferably before i leave, i know its short notice and you might not even get to check your emails.
thanks,
jordon
Answer
Greetings,
Don't know if you will get this in time, I just got off the water myself.
Sounds like you have a good idea about how to catch the walleye. My favorite way is to wind drift crawler harnesses, sometimes a plain rig with no spinner and just 2 #6 hooks. I'm not real serious about fishing for eyes though.
As for the pike a white bucktail with silver blades or a 9" Suick in the weeds would be where I would start. Pike love 9" Suicks. My favorite color for them is sucker and the red head/white body one. Little Cleos and 1/2oz Johnson Silver minnows with a chartreuse twister tail are good too. Don't forget to keep your hooks sharp.
Hook Em' Hard,
Joe
