old fly rod
Question
Rich, I was given an old Richardson flyrod it is a telescopic metal rod extends to 99-3/4" from end to end, I guess it would be considered an 8' rod? it is made of copper. Can you give me the history of it or direct me to someone who can? Would like to find out what era and possible value..thank you Frank.
Answer
Frank,
Richardson made some of the higher quality all metal rods prior to WWII. These were made in high volume, and low cost in their day.
Usually these rods are missing a lot of paint and the cork is in bad condition. Unless its near mint, they don't command a great deal of value.
History is hard to come by .
Richardson is not mentioned in :
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell
and that says it is not collectible.
Because it is not bamboo it is not in the history books
Luck,
Mac
