what do I have and value?
Question
I have this old rod that has the name Brookleerg which is in a picture with a man holding a rod with a net in a streem ,the rod has six sides looks to be bamboo with a wood hanle and metal or brass reel holder,I have two sections of it, its missing the end and all the eyelets I thought it might be nice to fix it up.what do you think?
Answer
Matt,
The word Brookleerg is not in my memory nor the following books:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell
Fishing Tackle: A Collector's Guide Hardcover, 1991 Graham Turner
ANd that says it is not a 20th century rod and or not collectable.
You might try the Gnome aka Jeffrey L. Hatton who wrote Rod Crafting A Full-Color Pictorial & Written History from 1843-1960.
Also a picture of the logo .
By eyelets - I think you mean guides.
I would need pictures to be sure if it is worth fixing up - but it probably would be a good idea.
Luck,
Mac
