pike leaders
Question
Where I fish it seems the pike are leader shy,so Ive heard of people using fluorocarbon leaders so the pike are not spooked, what pound test would you recommend on pike, whats the lightest and heaviest you would use?
Answer
Greetings,
I personally don't believe in leader shy fish. I would contribute success or lack of more to how a certainty of leader affects the lures action. For casting I prefer to use light solid wire leaders with no snap and good heavy duty split ring to attach it to the lure. I would recommend American Fishing Wire in the 104# and 86# for the really small light lures. The directions for tying the haywire loops is well described on the back of the package.
I do like the fluorocarbon for trolling as they are more durable and I don't feel like the bulk of the leader affects the crankbait action much. Stealth Tackle are my favorite.
