Vom Hofe Boat Rod
Question
Joe,
I have a heavy duty Vom Hofe boat rod. It is 7' and generally in good condition. However, the guide closest to the reel seat has been rewrapped and the ring for that guide had come off but was fastened back on with mono. On the reel seat where there is the number 12. The wrapping above the real seat where you grip the rod is made of an unknown material that is in good condition. On the butt of the rod, which is made from German Silver as is the reel seat it says DW Vom Hofe & Co. - Makers. There is very little set in the rod. Any idea of what whis rod is worth?
Thanks,
Paul
Answer
Hi Paul,
I'm going to guess that the stamping on the butt cap is supposed to say EDW Vom Hofe & Co. - Makers and that the "E" did not strike well or has worn off. This would make it a rod built by the Edward vom Hofe & Company firm in this very talented family.
Could you answer some questions for me, please?
Are the guides on this rod agate lined or all metal?
Is the material on the fore grip possibly split rattan?
Is the handle, or rear grip, also wrapped in the same material (rattan) or is it wood or cork?
How many guides are on the rod?
Are there guides on both sides of the rod? Placed back-to-back?
Is the tiptop guide designed to allow line to enter from both sides of the rod?
Value depends on condition and the components on the rod so these answers will be helpful.
Thanks, Joe
