QuestionI have a 6' bamboo rod that connect in two pieces with an extra tip. The only identifying marks I can find are Goodwin Granger & Co. and The Goodwin Rod which are on the silver ring where the reel attaches. This appears to be a bait casting rod. The cork handle is before where the reel attaches and the area where the reel attaches has a groove spiraling around the top half of where the reel attaches. The rod has 5 eylets and is in excellent condition, really beutifal red bamboo. It was stored with a cloth wrap which goes inside a metal tube. Can you tell me if this is a bait casting rod, how hold it might be, and its value? Thank you.
AnswerHi Mark,
Well, this one is a bit unusual. It sounds a lot like a bait rod, but "The Goodwin Rod" label was used on fly rods according to my reference book. Also, Granger rods are typically identified by the entire "Made By goodwin Granger & Co Denver" label. Two tip sections typically indicate a fly rod, but some older bait rods came with two tips as well. I don't think I have enough information to be sure yet.
If you have the ability to send me digital pictures of the rod, I'll review them for you. Send to
[email protected] if you can.
Thanks, Joe
