Irgens Quad
Question
Hello-
I am looking for info and value on a 7'8" Irgens Bamboo Quad Trout rod. It has two tips- one looks unfished. The other is very lightly fished. Each section has the number 156. The rod (varnish, etc) is in excellent shape. It is a quad design rather than hexagonal. I have not cast it, but guess it is about a 5 weight- The tube and sock are in good-excellent condition. Sock is original and has the serial number written on it. I've searched around the web a little and see him listed here and there- particularly for quad designs, but there is very little info available. Any info would be much appreciated!
Answer
Steve,
I changed your question to public so others may add to my answer.
I can confirm your experience , there is very little information available.
I have heard of John Irgens on Clarks, and Power Fibers:
Clarks Classic Bamboo rod forum:
http://www.classicflyrodforum.com/ning
Power Fibers April 2001 on line magazine for bamboo rod makers:
http://www.downandacross.com/dax/eq.pdf
I believe J. Irgens is no longer with us.
He is listed in Clarks as a great rod for a bargain.
Neither of these sources are going to help you estimate the value of your rod.
The maker not rod is not in my books :
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair
Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle: A Guide for Collectors & Anglers by A.J. Campbell
Fishing Tackle: A Collector's Guide Hardcover, 1991 Graham Turner
All the aobe tells me something, leads me to say your rod is not well known enough to be collectible and is probably low resale vale.
It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.
Luck,
Mac
