Question
Horrocks & Ibbotson ro
Hi Rich
Sorry, by my question before.
The rod is 7 feet/2 pieces. I only can atttached one picture.
Can you tell me anything about this rod; appropriate line (5 wt or 4 wt) age,the model, etc? .
Thanks in advance for you help
AnswerPedro,
The picture is blurry and didn't help.
I need labels and details to id . If you want to try again , as I say on the on the web site :
If you are asking for the id or value of an old rod please give a complete description , send pictures especially labels or logos to me,
[email protected] and a complete description including any of following that you can:
Is it? fly or casting rod ? Reel seat is below or above the cork handle ?
Check metal for id and patents ? What is it made of; bamboo ( flat sided# fiberglass or graphite # round#? Weight in oz? What is the diameter #not circumference# of the rod above the handle? Where was it purchased ? What type of metal nickel-silver, tin, or chrome platted brass? A complete description of any logos or labels. Length of rod per section and number of sections. Total rod length.
But I am going to give it a guess. I am assuming you have a fly rod, if not, then none of the rest is correct.
It is probably a 5 weight but could be as low as 3. Line weights in the past were usually printed as letters on the rod itself.
HI made only a few ,2 piece rod models, from the 30s to the 50s.
Price book:
Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 #2nd edition 2000# add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the average price for an HI rod with an extra tip, 2 or 3 sections a value of $20, 50 and $95 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Another book #Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook by Michael Sinclair) helped me id the possible rod models, but again no guarantees, as :
HORROCKS - IBBOTSON CO. poor-fair good-vg ex-mint
"Tonka Oueently rod 7' 9" (2/2) 35 115 195
"Tonka Prince" fly rod 7' (2/2) c.1950 30 95 175
2/2 means 2 sections 2 tips
If you are going to resale it , please keep in mind:
They are looked down upon by the collecting community and often they are justified. They were sort of mass produced , rather heavy and very slow. They are not going to resale for very much.
A small portion of these rods are decent fishing tools . It is the collector community that decides the prices , please don't blame the messenger.

I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.
It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.
Luck,
Mac
