Old Zebco spinners Rod and Reel matched sets
Question
I bought 2 Zebco rod and reels several years ago at an estate auction. The rod still has original label It is a 2 piece solid high density, medium action fiber glass rod. The number on the rod is model # 4470-6'. The reel is a Zebco XR-20 left handed open faced spinning reel. The rod and reel are matched sets ( color of reel matches lashing around rod eyes and cap on tip of handle. Several years ago a man that ran a tackle shop wanted to buy them. He said it was unusual to find the rod and reel together with labels intact. He advised me not to use them and put them up. I would like to know when they were made and if they hold any value. Thanks for your input.
Answer
Hello
these are fairly common fishing items. Zebco made low cost affordable fishing tackle - in high volumes.
The desireable fishing reels were high quality, expensive in there day ($40 in 1920 for instance), a therefore limited in production.
The reels and rods run $5-15. You might get more for the left hand reel. I would recommend posting here:

for a better appraisal since left hand reels are rarer than right hand.
