Pezon et Michel
Question
Hi- I fly fish salt water and know little about these rods. It does appear to be a casting rod but i thought anyone that knows Pezon & Michel bamboo rods could maybe tell the year from the production number. # 8249105. Does this mean 5th rod 1991, seems older, or 105th rod 1949?
Also i have found nothing on the name or word "Suscor" if i'm reading that correctly, it's hand written. I was given the rod by a friend in his 80's before he died and wasn't told about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Pezon et Michel
made in France
Bamboo
-2 piece, same length
- 72 inches over all
-red raps, red rubber seat at base end, brace connecting butt sections, cork handle
-cloth bag is in bad shape
-rod condition about a 6 VG only because i suspect someone put a coat of varnish on it at some point.
-Suscor with a 3 under. under that what looks like 8:12gu. under that what looks like 1"80. then at base #8249105
One more question, i don't know anything about casting rods, the handle is just a long piece of cork with to metal rings that move freely the whole length of the handle. What secures the real in place? there is no seat and the rings are not threaded?
I'll have pic's soon if you can tell me anything for now.
Thank you for your time and knowledge.
Answer
Eric,
I am a bamboo US trout fly rod man . Your rod is little off my radar. It's French casting rod.
History
http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/bamboo/part119.php
The serial number gives the date of manufacture - so I am guessing your rod is the 105th rod manufactured on the 8/2/49.
Price Book: Antique %26 Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification %26 Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the 7' model "Luxor-Precision 500" spinning rod with an extra tip, 2 sections a value of $40, 110 and $200 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. I would guesstimate your rod to be less than $50 resale value.
Homel doesn't mention a 'Suscor' or similar nor a 6 foot bamboo casting rod. My experience is generally bamboo casting rods are not collected, therefor not very valuable.
The 2 rings on the grip, hold the feet of a reel , sort of like jams / friction holds the reel in place.
I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.
It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.
Luck,
Mac
