QuestionMy dad has a South Bend Oreno 1000 fishing reel with the original box and Care Instructions with it. It also has a small envelope with a wrench(?)enclosed. There is also a card inside with 18pound test punched with a piece of black silk (Japan) line on it. The reel has the same line on it. Along with that is a card advertising the sale of 2 lures also by South Bend for 1.00 each and baboo poles (dated 1928). Could you tell me its value or where I could possibly find info on it? Thank you.
AnswerKathy
Fishing reel prices relate to the quality and rarity of the reel. The high quality reels were precision made in low volume - in 1920s - top reels were $40....not many could afford that.
Your reel, is fairly common high production reel. The reel by its self would sell for $5-10. But, you have the original box, wrench, etc. I would estimate it would sell for $20-30.
Note with the economy there are more sellers than buyers. Prices are down significantly from 2007.
You can get a second opinion - search "ORCA Fishing reels" then enter their "Reel Talk" section.
I collect fishing lures...let me know if you have any available.
